Let’s be honest… holidays don’t always turn out to be everything we’d hoped they would be, do they?
You can work your freakin’ a*s off for months saving up for that perfect tropical getaway only to be greeted by cr*ppy weather and screaming children as far as the eye can see.
Sometimes you can do everything in your power to ensure you get the week away of your dreams… you spend a little more than usual for those extra comfy pillows or you purposely pay more for that late checkout just so that you can enjoy those extra couple of hours in bed… but still, somebody somewhere finds a way to ruin it for you. It’s sod’s law at the end of the day.
But, you persevere because no mushy, cold in-flight meal is going to stop you from living out the scenario you’ve been playing over and over in your head since the day you booked your trip in the first place. You know the one: you’ve managed to pinch the perfect spot by the pool, the sun is beaming down on you as you’re sat with a pina colada in one hand and your favorite book in the other. Ah, bliss…
Then, after you realize you and you’re family are beginning to resemble french fries sat sizzling in the sun, you decide to go for a quick dip in the pool to cool off. Sound about right so far? Well, imagine that as you sit up and strip off, you look across the pool only to see another guest sat with her legs dipped in the water, shaving…
Yep, you did you read that right? Shaving. Now, we’ve all seen some pretty odd stuff whilst on holiday but this has got to be up there with the downright ridiculous. As can be seen in the images, kids are happily floating around, apparently none the wiser to the floating strands of leg hair that are potentially going to bob along the water all the way into their open mouths.
The hotel in which the pictures were taken is currently unknown, but they were uploaded onto Reddit by a user called Screwsausage and the images have unsurprisingly since gone viral.
An account named Muh_feelz commented: “I used to work at a public pool and for whatever reason, they attract the worst of humanity”
Another commenter exclaimed: “I used to lifeguard at a YMCA […] so figured I’d seen it all until this video” … “If public pools have taught me anything, it’s that people are disgusting animals“. Ouch.
Strong words but you have to say, it’s hardly appropriate behavior when you consider the fact that potentially hundreds of other guests swam in that pool on the very same day.
Seasoned public pool veterans had their say and some were mortified! One particular commenter mentioned something pretty freakin’ gross about the whole situation: “Imagine the inadvertent gulp of water that sometimes happens when you’re swimming.. with all the shaved hair in it. Grossssssssssss.” I think I’ve just been sick in my mouth a little bit.
A couple of hotel guests caught the woman in the act and got everything on tape. Which, you can watch here:
Some of the comments on the video perfectly sum up our reactions to seeing this:
Our thoughts exactly…
And whilst we’re on the topic of strange things we see on our holidays, there seems to be a new trend developing where people just no longer care for others around them. Some readers might object to the use of the word ‘new‘ in that description but bear with me.
Holiday goers have begun to capture images out of disgust of people coming down for breakfast in the morning still in the pajamas or clothes they wore to bed the night before. Now, I know vacations are usually meant to be a means of de-stressing, so naturally, they’re based on relaxation. But this is taking it a bit far don’t you think?
The last place I want to be when I’m wearing my PJ’s is a room full of strangers!
Some people have spoken out about the emerging pattern of inconsiderate guests. William Hanson, the television etiquette expert who runs a podcast called ‘Help I Sexted My Boss’ told Sun Online Travel: “Wearing pyjamas at breakfast is the height of sloppiness.”
He went on to say: “Whilst hotels encourage you to relax and be ‘at home’ there are limits and this usually relates to the private areas (your room/suite) and not the public or communal areas.”
“Arriving improperly dressed shows a total lack of consideration and respect for the staff and other guests.”
“It is very much one-star behavior.”
There was even an instance of one man walking around the breakfast area not only in his pajamas but with nothing on his feet as well, not even socks!
Who knows if he’s showered, has foot odor, verrucas… the list goes on. It disgusted an onlooker so much, that they actually complained to the hotel management about it. Rightly so!
Not everyone is on the same wave-length when it comes to this topic though. After images like these were posted on various social media sites and blogging platforms, opinion appears to be split.
One TripAdvisor user commented saying: “I’ve never seen anybody in PJs at any of the B&Bs I’ve stayed at and I don’t think it’s appropriate.” …“It’s tacky, inappropriate and gauche.”
But, another user looked to highlight the more important aspects of enjoying your holiday and all of its surroundings…
“This is not a big deal. Who cares what other people are doing.
“Was the room comfortable? Staff accommodating? Food good? Then I’d be happy…”
That’s fair enough, at the end of the day I suppose it’s down to personal preference and standards. So what are yours?
What do you make of these two issues? Do you think the woman shaving in the pool is acceptable? What about people walking barefoot through breakfast?
