The Dark Truth About Dr. Phil

The Dark Truth About Dr. Phil

The Dr. Phil show has been helping it’s guests for years now, or at least, that’s what people would like you to think. Underneath the caring, helpful exterior that is the Dr. Phil Show, there’s a concerning underbelly that hides some shady truths about one of America’s favourite TV doctors. Turn back now if you’re a Dr Phil fan, as you might find that this will change the way you look at Dr. Phil McGraw forever.

1. His marriage may not be all it seems

Although Dr. Phil and his wife, Robin, appear to be very much in love, the National Enquirer reported that their marriage has been plagued with troubles since they were first wed. The tabloid claimed that Dr. Phil sexually abused a 19 year old female patient and that the couple have had a ‘divorce deal’ in place for years. They also claimed that Robin has threatened to spill the beans on everything to do with Dr. Phil and his practices. However, Dr. Phil denied all of these allegations and the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists reported that Dr. Phil’s only crime was offering the patient in question a job in his office, which was classed as an ‘inappropriate dual relationship’.

Dr. Phil sued the National Enquirer for $250 million following these claims, and told the Daily Mail that, “Enough is enough, it’s time for them to own up. As a member of the media, I have a deep respect for the First Amendment. But it does not protect these people who knowingly print lies for money, particularly lies about my wife.”

2. He was sued for allegedly treating his employees badly

Leah Rothman is a former Dr. Phil employee who sued the show following claims that she was forced to quit, suffered ’emotional distress’, was wrongfully terminated, and was falsely imprisoned. The court documents spoke about an incident that occurred just before she quit in 2015, in which it was claimed that Dr. Phil gathered 300 people who worked on the show into a single room to make allegations that one of them had leaked information about him to the press. Part of the court documents read, “During the meeting, Dr. Phil was yelling at Ms. Rothman and her colleagues, slamming items down and threatened [sic] whoever leaked the story. Specifically, he stated, ‘If you f**k with me, I’ll f**k with you,’ continuously using profanity toward the employees throughout the meeting.”

3. He was accused of giving money to Casey Anthony

After Dr. Phil interviewed Casey Anthony’s parents, George and Cindy, about their daughter’s murder trial in 2011, Dr. Phil supposedly gave their charity, Caylee’s Fund, $600,000 as payment for their appearance. After Casey was acquitted for the murder of her daughter, The Orlando Sentinel reported that most of the money from the charity fund went to Casey. This means that although the money from Dr Phil may have gone to Casey, it didn’t go to her directly, as Cindy was the initial recipient.
