Woman Gets Her Period At The Worst Time – But A True Friend Is On Hand To Help Out

There is no good time to get your period. But there are times and places which can make the horrible experience a hell of a lot worse.

Whether it’s in the swimming pool, in the club, at the grocery store, there’s a bunch of situations that turn this monthly occurrence into every girl’s nightmare.

It’s really not uncommon for them to hit suddenly, and that’s what happened recently to a young woman, calling herself Jane, who told her story on Reddit, using the username I_Removed_Something. Honestly, thank goodness for her friend Dave. He’s now being named “The Period Fairy”.

A strange title, you might think – what is a period fairy, exactly? Well, the woman  wanted to clarify by giving an exact definition: “Period Fairy: A person who unexpectedly and tactfully helps you through an emergency period”. Honestly, that sounds incredible. But the story itself is even better.

Jane was out hiking in the mountains with a group of friends. Usually, she hikes with a group of 3 men and 3 women, however this time it was only the 3 men. The group of them go for a hike at least three times a week, so this was nothing out of the ordinary for Jane. However, what was about to happen had the potential to make it a very uncomfortable experience.

Jane describes her hikes as being pretty long, around three to five hours, so it requires a ton of supplies and tools. They had decided that once they reached the end of the trail, they would hire an Uber to drive them back home.

As usual, the group were enjoying the fresh air and rigorous exercise of hiking. The hike seemed to be going great – until the group neared the end of the trail. That was when Jane suddenly realised that she had got the “surprise period”.

She writes, “So we’re hiking for hours, nothing is happening, then about twenty minutes from the end of the trail, it hits me…I didn’t feel it coming at all, and it’s like four days early”.

Jane continued “I immediately slink back like 20 feet from the group and start having a panic attack. I had NOTHING on me and I was wearing shorts”. Jane noted that the shorts would be completely insufficient for what was happening.

She tried to get creative, trying different temporary tactics to solve the issue. Once she had separated herself from the group a little, she first tried to stuff her bra down her shorts. She started walking pretty slowly behind the rest of the group of males, while she figured out what she was going to do next.

In this time, she became visibly anxious, and the pain worsened. It was at that moment that her friend Dave realised that something was up, and decided to step in.

Dave walked back casually and asked, “Do you need to pee?” She explained that he would’ve asked this because she was doubled down with her hands held over her abdomen.

She stuttered, saying “No, I, That’s not”. Dave paused, and his voice softened.

“Period Issue?”, he asked. Relieved, but also a little embarrassed, Jane nodded.

What happened next was absolutely amazing. Dave saw how stressed out Jane was, so he told the rest of the guys, and that he needed to help her. But he also didn’t want to cause her any further embarrassment in front of the rest of the group, who were unaware of what was happening.

“Hey guys”, he shouted, Jane’s scraped her arm on a tree, I’m gonna tend to it but it’s gonna be like five minutes… just go to the road and set up lunch and call the car”.

This was a genius move, because it meant that he could attend to Jane and help her out. But how?

He reached into his bag. “Pads or tampons?”, he asked Jane. Amazed, she replies, “tampons” and the man pops out three tampons and a ton of wet-naps. On top of that, he pulls out a long sleeve black t-shirt, telling her to wrap it around her waist. THEN, he takes out a band-aid to keep up his cover story.

She was so relieved, and was blown away by how helpful he was, but she also wondered why on earth Dave had all these things in his backpack. Eventually, she just asked him.

He responded, “I’ve been hiking with women for years, you think I’m stupid?”. Honestly, this guy deserves a massive medal for what he did. What a hero!

Dave is clearly a true friend, and one can only imagine how grateful Jane was for his help on this day.
