Check Out How Much These Celebs Changed!

When it comes to celebrities, we are used to seeing them in a special light. However, there comes a time when they just drop the image that we are used to and they end up looking totally different than they did just one short year ago. I guess time, even a short amount, can change everything.

Also, we often get caught up in watching the same TV shows or movies that they starred in years ago, without even realizing that time has passed and therefore, they are bound to change with it. For whatever reason, we are inclined to think of them in this timeless fashion and forget that they are actually humans who do tend to age and go through changes, even on a yearly basis.

However, what we don’t like to see is someone changing so drastically that we have to wonder what happened to them in order for them to give up the beauty and glamour that they once had. Perhaps they are tired of the spotlight and wish to live normal lives. Sometimes it has to do with their addiction to drugs and alcohol over the years which can certainly take its toll of the appearance. Also, there may be times that they are physically altering themselves for a specific role that they have in mind that they intend to play in the near future. Whatever the reason, we are sure to notice because it is much different than we are used to seeing when it comes to them.

Hopefully, it’s not due to the fact that they are trying to stay “young” looking but unfortunately, we know that they are often compelled to undergo intense procedures which will inevitably alter their appearance in time, no matter how much they wish that this wasn’t the case.

Now, let’s take a look at these celebs who have changed so drastically that we hardly even recognize them today:

1. Kate Hudson.

This is the glamorous woman that we are used to seeing. She made her first big splash as Penny Lane, the sweet, not-so-innocent girl next door who follows around her favorite band in Almost Famous. It was that Academy Award nominated role that first brought her to the attention of the public at large, and since then she has been a household name.

That name has also been synonymous with a sweet, easy smile and fantastic wavy, golden locks, reminiscent of her mother’s. Throughout films like How To Lose A Guy In 10 DaysAlex and Emma, and Raising Helen, her grace and charm have helped her to become one of Hollywood’s top leading ladies.

Kate is the daughter of Goldie Hawn, herself one of the most famous and beautiful leading ladies of her day. Goldie divorced Kate’s father, Bill Hudson, when their daughter was only 18 months old and Kate was raised by her mother and Kurt Russel, Goldie’s long-time partner. Kate has definitely followed in her mother’s footsteps and proven that talent and beauty run strong in the family. But recently, Kate has ditched one of her trademark features for a bold, and somewhat shocking, new look.

This is her today:

It seems as if she has decided to get rid of her beautiful hair. While the buzz cut seems to be a trend right now in Hollywood – with stars like Cara Delevingne and Kristen Stewart donning the clippers and going in close – Kate’s new look has a specific purpose. She’s set to star in the movie Sister, based on a short story by the singer Sia, and the role requires a close-cropped ‘do. In this case, her change in appearance is easily forgiven because we can appreciate the fact that she is willing to give up such conventional beauty trends in sacrifice for a greater cause. Hopefully, the role that she intends to play will grant her an accolade that is more endearing than a post or a picture of her beautiful hair and smile. So, good luck to her and we look forward to all that she has to offer.

While many fans are loving the new look, Kate has joked that her son is not a fan. In an Entertainment Tonight interview, Kate told Clary Steel that her son is upset because he sported the look before she did. “Ryder’s like, ‘Mom, you’re cramping my style,'” she told Steel. But there was a tender moment, too. “But when I did it, he was like, ‘Oh my god, we actually…’ It was the first time he even could see that we looked, you know, that he looked like his mommy. But it was really cool.”

2. Jonah Hill.

After small appearances in I Heart Huckabees and 40-Year-Old Virgin, Jonah Hill burst onto the scene with his role as Seth, an awkward, fast-talking, and more than a little chunky teen in Superbad. Following Superbad, he landed a few other supporting roles in films like Click and Accepted before becoming a household name. Apparently following in the footsteps of comedians like Chris Farley and John Candy, he seemed destined to be typecast as the overweight, lovable goofball in comedic role after comedic role.

But he made his first big appearance in a dramatic role with Moneyball in 2011 and showed the world that, funny as he was, he had some serious acting chops as well.

Later films like 21 Jump Street and The Watch cemented Jonah’s place as one of today’s most recognizable movie stars. But for the 2016 film War Dogs, Jonah was actually asked to gain weight. And he complied.

Later, he decided to let it all go!

After his dramatic transformation for his role in War Dogs, Jonah decided to make another big change, this time getting serious about losing all that extra weight, and then some. He called his friend and former costar Channing Tatum for some advice on slimming down. “I called Channing and said: ‘Hey, if I eat less and go to a trainer, will I get in better shape?'” he said in an interview. “And he said: ‘Yes you dumb motherf*****, of course you will, it’s the simplest thing in the entire world.'”

His weight loss was easy.

It looks like Channing Tatum was right – and who would know better than Channing? Today Jonah is almost unrecognizable compared to his earlier film appearances. What’s his secret? He says, “I wish there were some crazy thing that I did, like a pill or a genie or something, but I went to see a nutritionist, and he told me what to eat and to change my habits and stuff. I found that Japanese food was beneficial to me.” He says cutting out beer also made a big difference, which he describes as “annoying.”

3. Blake Lively.

Blake Lively is definitely more than a pretty face, but when you’re pursuing a career in film, a pretty face definitely doesn’t hurt. Blake had her breakout role as Bridget in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants before portraying Serena van der Woodsen in the CW teen drama Gossip Girl, which premiered in 2007 and ran until 2012. She even put off college to pursue the role, thinking she would be able to finish by attending part time.

But with role after role being offered to the beautiful star, she began to realize that stardom would come at the cost of higher education. Although she has expressed some regret over not finishing her degree, her success in film and television likely make up for missing out on college. She has landed roles in films such as The Private Lives of Pippa LeeThe TownThe Age of Adaline, and The Shallows, but it was her appearance in 2011’s Green Lantern that really changed her life. That’s where she met her future husband, Ryan Reynolds.

In 2014 Blake went through a physical transformation familiar to many women when she gave birth to her first child. Though she later worked to lose the weight she gained during her pregnancy, she embraced the change, even doing a photo shoot for L’Oreal while pregnant.

In an Instagram post she told fans, “Turns out you can’t lose the 61 lbs you gained during pregnancy by just scrolling through Instagram and wondering why you don’t look like all the bikini models.” She says it took her 10 months to gain the weight and 14 months to lose it.

But aside from the physical rigors of motherhood, Blake has also transformed herself for her on-screen roles as well. For the upcoming film Rhythm Section, Blake was willing to shear off those famous blonde locks and adopt a look we’re definitely not used to seeing.

The film is reportedly a revenge thriller. With Blake in the lead, opposite Jude Law, we’re excited to see what directions this new look takes her in.

4. Oliva Wilde.

Actress and model Olivia Wilde is known for her piercing pale-blue eyes, killer cheekbones, and gorgeous brown hair.

She was a regular on the television series House from 2007 until 2011, playing Dr. Remy “Thirteen” Hadley, an internist with Huntington’s disease.

She recently posted this pic of her on Instagram saying, “dark times call for dark hair.” Rumors have been circulating that she may be starring in the Broadway adaptation of George Orwell’s 1984, and that the new ‘do may be related to the upcoming stage performance. But for the moment, we’re just excited to see her new look. Olivia is a stunner no matter what.

5. Cara Delevingne.

Cara is best known as a model, a career which prompts plenty of different looks for the runway beauty.

Back in 2016 she posted these images to Instagram, showing one of her many transformations. L’Oreal Paris stylist Mara Roszak, who is well known in the fashion world for her magical work, gave Cara a tousled lob cut.

A post shared by Mara Roszak (@mararoszak) on

She gave us a glimpse of how much had been lopped off before letting us see the finished product. Looking at the tangled mess on the floor and thinking about how it had recently adorned the face of one of the most beautiful women on Earth, it would be easy to be a little apprehensive.

But Cara came away looking as stunning as ever, and absolutely rocking her new look. Of course, this was all part of the job, but as a model, Cara is always expected to look her best. As an actor, sometimes styled, primped outer beauty isn’t what the script calls for.
Cara was recently cast as Isabelle, a woman diagnosed with terminal cancer, in the movie Life in a Year. As a cancer patient, Cara will have to appear with her head shaved. And honestly, she looks amazing with a close-cropped ‘do. It has been reported that she shaved her head even before getting the role. Her managers were completely against the move, saying, “Please don’t! Why would you do that?” However, she says, “I needed to feel what it would be like to have no hair. The way you look, I think, it’s so important to feel beautiful, no matter if you have hair. I don’t matter at all.”

6. Selena Gomez.

Once best known as the long-timie girlfriend of Justin Bieber, Selena’s music and acting career has been expanding ever since she was a teen. She has a huge Instagram following in addition to her multitude of appearances onstage and on-screen.

When she was diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune disease that would ultimately lead her to need a kidney transplant, she says she simply didn’t want to accept it. Although the disease led to fevers, headaches, extreme fatigue, and fluctuating weight, she refused to stop singing and acting. It wasn’t until 2016 that she took some time to step away from the spotlight for a while.

“I was absolutely broken inside,” she told fans. “And I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down, but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down.” After receiving a new kidney donated to her by her best friend, Fancia Raisa, Selena is starting to feel like she has her life back under control. She recently marked her renewed vigor by going blonde. And while not everyone on Instagram was thrilled with the change, Selena is looking better and happier than ever.

It supposedly took 9 hours and about 300 foils and eight bowls of bleach to make this blond dream come true.

7. Taylor Swift.

Taylor Swift has been a musical performer since she was nine years old. She’s known for being a bit of an open book, with many of her songs revealing details about her personal life.

She modeled for Abercrombie & Fitch at a young age, and the world got their first glimpse at her famous blonde curls.
Taylor has changed her look several times throughout her extremely successful career, but she has never failed to be the very picture of poise and grace both on and off stage.
She recently went back to the curls that accompanied her rise to fame, and her fans seem pretty stoked, posting tweets like “Taylor Swift just curled her hair and the fandom is shook,” and, “yep @taylorswift13 we’re freaking out about the curls and the curly hair hairflip.”

8. Kim Kardashian West.

Kim Kardashian’s style has been what she is known for since long before she was a West. Although she is often criticized for “being famous for being famous,” she has proven to be a genius when it comes to marketing. And what she is marketing is herself.

Her look changes constantly, as any of her millions of obsessed Instagram followers can readily tell you, though the brunette usually lets her dark hair express its natural color, and it obviously works for her. Still, if she wants to keep up with the Kardashian reputation, there are going to be changes from time to time.

At the moment it looks like going blonde is the new thing, because that’s exactly what Kim did as well. She says on Twitter on December 13, 2017, “spent the last few days bleaching my roots (we do it in stages, so it doesn’t break off) OMG 13 hours and still going. This blonde is very high maintenance. Love you @ChrisAppleton1 but getting over this. ” High maintenance it may be, but her fans are loving the look. Twitter erupted the way it does any time Kim… well, does anything at all, with a majority of the tweets mirroring the sentiment in this one: “It is worth it girl!!! I love the blond!!!”

9. Bella Thorn.

Bella Thorn is another star with a devoted and opinionated Instagram following. Having started her career as a child model, she is used to changing her look to turn heads. She is well known for her striking red hair, whether it’s the more natural looking hue she sported in everything from Shake It Up to Famous In Love, or the fiery red she sported at the American Music Awards.

It sure seemed like red was her color, and she always made it work whether she was portraying the sweet girl next door or the badass rocker babe. She’s also famous for posting pics of herself on Instagram without makeup, happy to expose the natural flaws we all share. But the red was still always there.

But while she always seems to be comfortable with the way she looks, she is also ready to shake things up. When she appeared at the premier of Assassination Nation with jet-black hair, she proved once again that she can completely own any look. Sure, we might miss the fiery, flowing locks, but we can’t deny she looks as great now as she always does.

9. Emma Stone.

Emma Stone is another famous redhead, well known for being relaxed and funny in interviews, a superb actor on screen, and of course, she’s drop-dead gorgeous. But Emma doesn’t get by on her looks alone, and has worked toward her dream of being an actor since a very young age. She started acting at age four, took voice lessons throughout her childhood, and trained in musical theater – an early passion that would see a huge payoff in La La Land.
In her recent film Battle of the Sexes, Emma’s stunning good looks were toned down by a 1970s style that, while unflattering to be sure, still somehow failed to hide her naturally alluring features. But if you’re a fan of Emma’s stunning good looks, you may have missed her trademark red hair.

Well, get used to it, because it looks like the red is out, at least for a while. Like a lot of other stars on this list, Emma has recently ditched her natural color for a striking blonde. And, like others on this list, it works surprisingly well. Don’t worry – the red will certainly be back, but for the moment, is anyone really complaining?

Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Emma as a blonde. You may have had trouble recognizing her the first time you saw the trailer to 2014’s Birdman. But if you actually saw the film, you got a chance to preview her new look a few years early, while still enjoying one of her many knockout performances.

10. Katie Holmes.

Katie has been an American sweetheart since her days on the set of Dawson’s Creek. Her cute, calm demeanor and sweet voice made her a celebrity overnight, with her own popularity rapidly eclipsing that of the show that made her famous.

Throughout her early career, even when she played characters in darker-themed films like Disturbing Behavior, Go, and The Gift, she usually maintained her sweet, girl next door appearance complete with natural looking makeup and long auburn hair.

One notable exception was the 2003 cult hit Pieces of April, where she played the titular role of April, a former troubled teen who had abandoned her suburban life and moved to New York City, only to attempt to reconnect with her more straight laced family over Thanksgiving. Her dyed pigtails, dark eyeliner,  and cherry neck tattoos were a departure from the more cookie cutter appearance her characters tended to sport in her other on-screen appearances.

But, the outlying roles notwithstanding, we’ve rarely caught a glimpse of Katie looking too far removed from the demure teen on Dawson’s Creek. So it’s refreshing to see her sporting her new, super-short cut. While it’s tempting to think the change could be a sign of the new Katie after her split with ex-husband Tom Cruise, the timing doesn’t actually work out – the couple has been divorced for six years now, though it seems like only yesterday that Katie took Suri and left the Church of Scientology and her celebrity husband.

Her new style is actually part of her preparation for an upcoming film. “I’m getting ready to play a woman in a movie called The Doorman,” she explained. “She’s an ex-Marine, and she’s a warrior. I’m excited. I’m training. I’m sore!”

11. Emilia Clarke.

If you’re familiar with Emilia Clarke, you probably know her as Daenerys, or by her title Khaleesi, on Game of Thrones. If you’re a super fan, you may know her by her full title, Daenerys of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, The Unburnt, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Queen of Meereen, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Protector of the Realm, Lady Regnant of the Seven Kingdoms, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons.

And if you already knew that full title, you’re a huge nerd. And you’re in good company. Emilia Clarke became a sensation overnight with her first major role as the platinum-blonde exiled heir to the Iron Throne. But Emilia, a natural brunette, had to wear a wig to transform her into a Targaryen. Out of character, she’s possibly even more stunning than she is in the show.

She was able to keep her natural hair color for her role as Sarah Conner in Terminator Genysis, where she portrayed a younger version of Linda Hamilton’s character from previous films.

Emilia will also be going au naturel in her appearance in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

For the final season of Game of Thrones, however, she finally decided to dye her hair blonde rather than donning a wig for every shoot. “It was like, ‘Well, it’s now or never.'” she said of the changes. “So I did it and it’s cut time in the morning, so my 3 AM turned into 3.30 AM. I was like, ‘Why didn’t I do this eight years ago?’

12. Katy Perry.

It might seem a little hard to believe now, but music sensation Katy Perry actually started her singing career in her church choir. Before changing her name, she released the eponymous album Katy Hudson, a heavily religious mix of Christian rock with Gospel themes. And let’s be honest: She can definitely pull off the sweet churchgoer look if she wants to. In fact, when you think of Katy Perry, chances are you think of her looking like this, with her straight, dark hair and sweet smile.

But Katy can pull off any number of looks on and off stage. If you think you’re going to keep up with her style, don’t. Katie is a celebrity chameleon.

She went for a slightly toned-down but still uniquely “Katy” look when she spoke at the Democratic National Convention.

But we think she was just as comfortable when she attended the 2016 MET Gala. The theme that year was “Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology.”

And at the previous year’s MET Gala, she was obviously enjoying herself with the “China: Through the Looking Glass” theme.

In fact, Katy completely changes her look so often that she might simply be using her music career as a way to get paid to play dress-up.

So what’s different about her new look? Well, she recently started sporting a blonde pixie cut, not unlike a number of other stars, but this time it appears it wasn’t totally by choice. Katie opened up on The Ellen Degneres Show about the impetus for her new hairstyle. “I don’t know if you’ve ever dyed your hair blonde – and too blonde,” she explained to the audience. “Sometimes your hair falls out when you go too blonde.” Apparently the bleaching process wasn’t easy on Katy’s hair, and after being dyed blonde it started to come out in clumps. So Katy decided to just lop it off. Of course, the diva was able to roll with it and is rocking the new look.

13. Christina Aguilera.

Christina Aguilera has been a music icon since the late ’90s, and like a lot of others, her style has changed continually over the years.

She’s been criticized over recent years for not looking as glamorous as she has in the past, and for appearing to have had some touch-up work done by a plastic surgeon. It’s easy to forget that the super star is pushing 40, and age catches up with us all. Christina, though, isn’t done running.

Any criticism of the singer’s looks should be taken with a grain of salt. She recently did a photo shoot for Paper Magazine without any makeup. The close-up photos show her in all her natural glory, freckles and all. And while we can’t deny that she doesn’t quite look like the 20-something star who burst onto the scene in 1998, she’s still a beauty to behold, no matter her age.

14. Val Kilmer.

Val Kilmer was one of the biggest heartthrobs of the ’80s and ’90s. He had his first big break back in 1984 with the cult classic comedy Top Secret! and starred in a string of other comedies after that.

Already a thin guy, Val lost 30 pounds in order to play Doc Holiday, a wild west gunslinger dying of tuberculosis, in 1993’s Tombstone. He had no way of knowing at the time that his Tombstone role would be mirrored in real life by rumors about his dramatic weight loss decades later.

Over the years, age and bad habits started to catch up with Val, who became noticeably heavier after rounding the 50-year mark.

So, naturally, rumors began to fly about his possibly failing health after he posted this pic to Instagram. The actor has battled cancer in the past, and fans worried that his recent weight loss might be a sign that he was losing that battle. Val took to Twitter to set the record straight: “I have been urged by friends to post something about my perfect health and weight loss. Can’t win in this crazy town. Too heavy for too many years and now gossip says, too thin! But I’m preparing as most of you know, for my dream role, Mark Twain in a film I’ve written and will direct about his obsession with Mary Baker Eddy. Mark Twain was a thin man, and finally after the usual amount of effort, I’m thin again too. Perfect health.”

15. Britney Spears.

Britney Spears’s story isn’t unlike Christina Aguilera’s. She became a pop sensation in the early ’90s with her albums …Baby One More Time and Oops!… I Did It Again. At the time of her initial success she was still a teenager, and looked the part.

Over the years she has been known almost as much for her good looks as she has for her music. Somehow she managed to hold onto her girlish charm throughout her 20s and into her 30s.

Now 36, critics have pointed out that her age is starting to show. And maybe it is. But nobody stays a teenager forever, and Britney carries the first few hints of wrinkles with grace.

16. Mick Jagger.

If you’re under the age of, let’s say 40, you may not even recognize this mug at first as the lead singer of The Rolling Stones. Mick has remained in the spotlight all his life, so it’s easy to forget that, once upon a time, the Wild Horses singer didn’t look like he had been dragged through the streets by wild horses.

Aw, we’re only kidding, Mick. Nobody can be expected to look like a teen idol at 74, and for all of Mick’s notorious hard living, it’s impressive that he’s still going strong.

17. Neil Young.

Neil is another rocker who just won’t quit. His music career spans nearly six decades, and he’s still touring at age 72!

Neil was never exactly a model, and he’s actually been looking more distinguished with age.

He actually looks a bit like a Civil War general. Maybe he could play one in an upcoming movie? You never know.

18. Goldie Hawn.

Goldie Hawn was one of the sexiest leading ladies of the 1960s and beyond, and it’s no surprise that she gave birth to one of today’s most beautiful actresses.

Goldie’s appearance has been criticized in recent years due to the appearance of wrinkles and obvious signs of cosmetic surgery. But that may be because she kept up her glowing appearance for decades, and it’s easy to forget that she’s in her 70s now.

19. Macaulay Culkin.

Macaulay Culkin was one hell of a cute kid, and after Home Alone and a string of subsequent movies aimed at kids, it seemed like he might be one of the lucky few to make the transition from child stardom to adult actor.

We thought he’d be playing this same role well into adulthood.

But pictures that have surfaced over the years, in addition to bizarre videos he has uploaded from time to time, just leave us scratching our heads and wondering what happened.

20. Pam Anderson.

There might not have been a more prominent sex symbol in the 1990s than Pamela Anderson. The Baywatch babe was the fantasy of every teenage boy who watched her bouncing across the sand week after week.

She also answered every young dude’s dreams every time she graced the pages of Playboy.

Now 50 years old, Pamela looks like she has been desperately trying to hang on to her former good looks by going under the knife. She has been accused of having a plastic surgery addiction, and it definitely shows.

21. Madonna.

She was the IT girl in the 80s and has managed to maintain a long career. Even decades past her prime, her name and sound are instantly recognizable. But she’s not the glamorous beauty she used to portray.

She also rocked the ’80s look pretty hard. But hey, it was the ’80s.

No matter how hard she tries to hang on to her glory days, the aging process is fighting back. These days she’s full of face fillers and it’s hard to even look at her the same.

22. Ozzy Osbourne.

Ozzy Osbourne has always been a weird-looking dude, but at the height of his career, it was at least possible to believe that was by choice.

In fact, he even managed to look normal and somewhat attractive when he sat still for a minute or two. OK, he was considered a sexy rocker – it’s just hard to take that feathered hair seriously.

Ozzy has remained in the spotlight as he approaches 70, and the spotlight doesn’t look great on him. The reality show The Osbournes attempted to entertain audiences with his bumbling antics and interactions with his comparatively normal family. (We say “comparatively normal” but they’re all weird. It’s just that Ozzy really takes the cake.) In addition to his haggard appearance that is no doubt the result of decades of drug and alcohol abuse, Ozzy’s incomprehensible mumbling just makes him look like a sad, washed out old man. But hey, he’s still touring and audiences are loving it, so more power to ya, Ozzy!

This rock n roll rebel went from being a cute, young man into a haggard, old beast! What went wrong here? Probably all of the drug use.

23. Courtney Love.

Courtney Love was always a messy-looking rocker girl, and that’s probably part of her popularity. She was a stark contrast to the sparkling, made-up divas who were her contemporaries in the 1990s. She seemed like the perfect wife for grunge rock legend Kurt Kobain until his death in 1994, and her own band, Hole, had a grungy, dirty edge of its own.

It’s sad to see someone fall from grace. Courtney’s appearance these days is a bit of a paradox. She seems to be trying to hold on to her looks with plastic surgery, hair dye, and copious amounts of makeup. The result is that she looks less and less like a rocker, and more and more like a washed-out starlet still trying to fit in.

In a way it’s a mercy that Kurt isn’t here to see what she’s become.
