Most of us have been brought up with the firm belief that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

This has been proved time and time again by countless studies all proving different things which lead to the same point. Never skip breakfast!

It’s just another reason why brunch and gourmet breakfasts are a great idea!

Grabbing some breakfast is a great way of making sure your metabolism has started, and to make sure those nasty junk food cravings stay at bay!

The key to a long and happy life is health, and sadly that means we should all eat right (no more binge eating Ben & Jerry’s) and going to the gym more often.

I’m sorry, but at least you now have an excuse to wear your sweatpants (apart from saying their comfy).

It goes without saying that breakfast is often consumed on a empty stomach, but there are certain things to avoid having when you still haven’t managed to eat yet.

Whether it’s a cup of coffee, or a trip to the shop, here are a few things you should avoid when on an empty stomach!

Tablets And Pills

Anyone who takes  nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should avoid taking them on an empty stomach. This include tablets like aspirin and paracetamol.

If you take these types of medications on an empty stomach can result in gastric bleeding, but it’ll also reduce the effectiveness of the medication!

The best thing to do when taking these pills in the morning is to wash it down with a glass of milk and a slice of toast! 


Most of us reach for a cup of coffee first thing in the morning, but we should actually reach for breakfast first!

Drinking black coffee on an empty stomach can actually result in acid that will probably result in heartburn and acid reflux.

That’s not the right way to start your day!

So try adding some cream or milk into your coffee as the fat in the milk will help ease your digestion.


Obviously, if your drinking alcohol first thing in the morning, you might want to see a medical professional anyway, but it’s even worse if your doing it on an empty stomach.

If you really need a drink then grab some orange juice instead and pair it with a sandwich, this will help ease digestion!

Chewing Gum

Chewing gum first thing in the morning can result in some nasty damage to your stomach lining!

It’s also proven that people who regularly chew gum prefer junk food over fresh and healthy food. Who would have guessed?!


Never sleep on an empty stomach.

If you’ve ever tried sleeping when your hungry, you’ll know it’s almost impossible for you to fall asleep!

When you don’t get enough sleep, you often end up craving more savory and fatty foods in the morning.

So the best thing to do is to have some dairy products before bed (like milk). No more early morning cravings for you!


Exercising first thing in the morning isn’t the best idea in the world, I mean, who wants to get up that early?! Not me!

But if you hit the gym first thing, before breakfast, your actually doing more harm than good!

If your going to do some resistance training in the morning, then your best having some sort of carbs (like toast or fruit) before you train.

But if you insist on fasted training then it’s best if you do some form of aerobic exercise (like jogging) instead since it doesn’t require as much energy as lifting weights!

Go Shopping

Shopping on an empty stomach is always a bad idea!

You’re more likely to spend money on food you fancy rather than food you need. This means you’re spending more money!

Before you go shopping, you should always have something to ear, this will help you take your mind of the hunger so you don’t end up over spending on junk you don’t need or want!

Lemon Juice

You should never drink lemon juice on an empty stomach!

It has some pretty serious effects on your stomach lining!

But if you are planning drinking lemon juice before you eat, your best off diluting it with water!


I know this sounds crazy but you should never starve yourself when your on a diet!

According to recent studies, your more likely to binge eat if your starving yourself!

Have a small healthy snack at regular intervals to avoid any binge eating. It’s that simple!

Who knew skipping breakfast could be so bad for you?

Maybe I’ll keep a toaster and some Pop Tarts by my bed to make sure I always remember my breakfast!

But then again, maybe I’ll eat them all in one sitting. Who knows?!
