We love talking about celebrities who we’re going crazy for right now. There’s not a day goes by without some news about the Kardashians or Beyonce hitting the headlines. But what of the pop stars whose star just failed to keep on rising? Today we’re going to be looking at fourteen has-been pop stars who just haven’t realised that they’re not famous any more.
1. Iggy Azalea
When Iggy Azalea hit the charts with Fancy back in 2014, we thought her career was going to be unbelievable, but when she refused to promote her own arena tour the following year it was clear that things were not going well. Since then she’s had continuous beef with her label, which hasn’t helped her to get back onto the charts.
2. Justin Timberlake
I love Justin Timberlake, but the rest of the world just doesn’t seem to agree right now. Especially since his 2018 Super Bowl performance flopped and left the younger generation questioning who he was. Cry me a river, JT.
Remember when Fergie was in the Black Eyed Peas? Those were the days, huh? Well, unfortunately for Fergie, her days of fame are over as she discovered when she sang the American national anthem at the NBA All-Star Game this year. Part of the audience were cringing at how bad her rendition of the anthem was, part of the audience were wondering when Fergie’s career became relevant again, and the final part were wondering who the woman on the court even was.
4. Rita Ora
Rita Ora’s recent attempts to stay relevant have been cringey to say the least. In October 2014 she put out a Tweet which read, “Dropping my new song Monday if this gets 100,000 retweets.” Predictably, she did not get 100,000 retweets, but what made it worse was that she then sent out another Tweet claiming that her account had been hacked and she wasn’t releasing any new tracks until she was good and ready. Too little, too late, Rita!
5. Nelly Furtado
This one hurts, because Nelly Furtado was wonderful back in the early 2000’s, but her attempt at a return to the spotlight in 2017 didn’t even break the Billboard 200 in her home country of Canada. Sad stuff.
6. Taylor Swift
Now stop right there, TayTay fans, we all know that Taylor is still a superstar, but let’s be honest she has not been on top of her game recently. Singles from her latest album haven’t done all that well, although Look What You Made Me Do debuted at number one, other singles rocked in at number 4, number 13 and number 18 in the charts. Not that good when you think of her track record. Maybe she’ll write her next album about this.
7. Nick Jonas
The Jonas Brothers were a worldwide phenomenon, but Nick Jonas failed to make waves with his solo career. Although, considering how well his movie, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle did well last year, so maybe he’ll do better as an actor.
8. Meghan Trainor
Although we all know All About That Bass, can any of us remember any other songs Meghan Trainor did? Didn’t think so.
9. Katy Perry
Katy Perry is another pop star you might be thinking shouldn’t be on this list, but like her rival Taylor Swift, her recent singles just haven’t come close to the success of her recent career. Some even say that the only reason she’s still around at all is because the feud with Taylor keeps her relevant.
10. Fifth Harmony
Fifth Harmony looked to be a sure thing after their appearance on the X Factor, especially considering that they opened for Demi Lovato. But their career has failed to get off the ground, which make it even more painful when Camila Cabello left the group and started her own successful solo career. Sorry, ladies!
11. Joy Villa
This pop star was less famous for her hits and more famous for her red carpet fashion choices. Villa showed up at the 2017 Grammys wearing a ‘Make America Great Again’ dress in an attempt to hype up her new single which was named for the famous phrase. Sadly, it didn’t work, as none of her music videos have broke 500 thousand views on YouTube. Sorry Villa, but nobody cares.
12. Austin Mahone
When I was looking for people to include on this list, I have to admit that I read Austin Mahone’s name and thought “…who?” That’s just how not famous this person who was due to become the next Justin Bieber really is. Although his career was really hyped up, the poor guy just didn’t sell any records, so we’re not likely to be seeing much more of him in the future.
13. Azealia Banks
Azealia Banks had that one single that you might remember, named 212, but her social media squabbles with everyone she could find even a little beef with caused her star to fall as quickly as it rose. Her online behaviour even cost her a collaboration with Lady Gaga, who said Banks had a bad attitude. If Gaga says that about you, you might as well start mourning your career because it’s over!
14. Charlie Puth
Charlie Puth tried to use his relationships with female celebrities to gain his own fame but it did not work. He claimed he had a relationship with Selena Gomez, which she denied, and then made out with Meghan Trainor at the 2015 American Music Awards. People still didn’t care.
