As we go about our daily lives, we may find that we start to feel a bit run down and that our health isn’t as good as it could be. At times like these, you could benefit from detoxifying your body, as a build up of toxins could be contributing to your feeling a little bit under the weather. Today, we’re going to be looking at eleven surprisingly simple ways to detoxify your body that you can start doing today!
1. Replace your morning coffee with green tea
I know some of you out there will hate me for even suggesting this, but hear me out! Coffee, especially unfiltered coffee, contains a molecule called cafestol which can build up cholesterol in your body. Switching to green tea will not only negate this, but it’s full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatories which are good for your body in a number of ways.
2. Drink lots of water
I know this one won’t be a surprise to many of you, but drinking a lot of water really is one of the easiest and most effective ways to flush toxins from your body. Drinking a lot of water means that toxins will pass through your body more quickly and won’t have time to take effect. If you really want to cleanse your body, add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to a gallon of water and mix the two properly. Drinking this every morning will help you to detox even quicker.
3. Get sweating
Sweating through either exercising or visiting a sauna is a really easy way to remove toxins from your body. It’s your body’s natural way of removing toxins, so the more sweaty you get the better! Just remember to consult your doctors before hitting the sauna if you think high temperatures could be risky for you.
4. Go organic
Organic foods don’t have the pesticides or antibiotics that are applied to other foods, meaning that they carry less toxins. Removing these unnecessary toxins from the equation entirely will help your digestive system to work better and improve your metabolism in the first place. If you can, try to eat less processed foods too, as this will have the same effect.
5. Red wine
I can feel some of you rejoicing at this news, and yes red wine can actually help you to detoxify your body by lowering your cholesterol. You can even use red wine to fight off urinary tract infections! However you’ve got to limit yourself to just one glass a day, I just won’t tell you how big that glass has to be!
6. Stay away from refined sugars
Refined sugars are bad for your body as they stop your metabolism from working effectively and build up too much glucose in your blood. This excess glucose causes weight gain, which in turn increases your chance of developing diabetes and heart disease. Try to find healthier alternatives for refined sugar, such as maple syrup or organic brown sugar instead of regular refined sugar.
7. Fasting is your friend
I know that going without food isn’t anyone’s favourite thought, but fasting for a day or two every so often can be really helpful when detoxifying your body. Not only will it help your body to get rid of toxins, but it can also lower your appetite, which is naturally great for weight loss. There are plenty of resources online that can teach you how to fast safely and effectively.
8. Make detox smoothies
Making smoothies with lots of healthy fruits and vegetables can give your body a boost of fibre, which in turn helps it to cleanse itself. Get that smoothie maker working!
9. Activated Charcoal
Activated charcoal is very absorbent, which makes it great for removing toxins from your body. The lack of oxygen in the substance will help it to pick up almost any toxin that’s floating around your body and flush it out. You’re advised to take an activated charcoal pill before you have food or consume alcohol for the best results.
10. Get probiotics into your diet
Keeping your digestive system healthy is the easiest way to make sure your body isn’t filled with toxins. Probiotic foods that are packed with good bacteria can help to maintain a healthy digestive system and keep you cleansed.
11. Clear toxins from the air around you
Even the air you breathe can be full of toxins that are bad for your body. So how do you get rid of toxins that sit in the air around you? Pick up an air purifier to decrease the toxins in the air around your home, and make sure to dust and mop your home regularly, as a clean home means less toxins overall.
